The church needs to move out of the building

It is important that we should remind ourselves of what it means to be in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ was seldom in the temple and spent most of His time in the community, preaching, teaching, healing, feeding the poor, and in prayer.
The church today seems to be locking itself behind closed doors. It is too busy with inward-looking business in our church buildings.
Let's remind ourselves that the primary purpose of Jesus Christ's ministry was to proclaim the Kingdom of God and bring salvation to humanity through His teaching, miracles, preaching, feeding, and ultimate sacrifice on the cross.
The church today needs to ask itself the question: “Are we willing to take the ultimate sacrifice on the cross?”
The church of Christ cannot just be about closing our eyes and ears to the cries of the people of God and the moral decay of our metro and society in general which is the order of the day.
It is our endeavour as Methodist people to work hard on rediscovering our evangelical hearts by calling a combined service for the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.
The venue for the service is still to be secured.
It is our intention to gather all Methodists in one of our stadiums.
However, at this stage, we are struggling to get one.
The envisaged combined service will mark the new beginning aimed at transforming the way we do Christianity during our life time.
Let us be reminded of the work and life of Jesus.
Let us be reminded of Jesus who cared deeply about the poor, downtrodden, and those in the periphery of our society.
The church of Christ should be about the love of God and salvation.
God's love is for all. It cannot be business as usual.
The church needs to do serious introspection and ask itself this question: “What would Jesus Christ say seeing the crisis we find ourselves in?"
Certainly, Jesus Christ would say, "I have come in order that you might have life - life in all its fullness" (John 10:10).
Jesus Christ was sent into this world in order that people might have life."
Christians are called to sacrifice and be victorious.
For us to be victorious in the mission of Christ, we must be prepared to sacrifice.
St Paul puts it very well when he says: "I do this in order that they may be filled with courage and may be drawn together in love, and so have the full wealth of assurance which true understanding brings.
“In this way, they will know God's secret, which is Christ himself. He is the key that opens all the hidden treasures of God's wisdom and knowledge" (Col 2: 2 - 3).
We cannot overemphasise the point of unity among the people called Christians.
It is truly appreciated to see the spirit of working together displayed by Nelson Mandela Metro Church leaders and their attempts to be prophetic and be the voice of the voiceless.
It would make a huge difference if all church members are encouraged by their pastors to foster unity as Christians.
"I pray that they may all be one, Father! May they be in us just as you are in me, and I am in you. May they be one so that the world will believe that you sent me" (John 17:21).
